The serval uses its sense of hearing to locate the prey; to kill small-scale prey, it leaps over 2 m( 6 ft 7 in) above the soil to land on the prey on its forefeet, and finally kills it with a bite on the cervix or the heading. Mating takes region at different times of its first year in different parts of their range, but generally once or twice a year in an area. After a gestational reporting period two to 3 month, a litter of one to four is birth. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens embark hunting on their own at six months. The adolescents leave their father at 12 months .

The serval prefers areas with plow such as reeds and towering grass and close proximity to liquid torsoes, such as wetlands and savannahs. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but widespread in southern Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources( IUCN) classifies the serval as least concern. It occurs in protection areas across its assortment, and hunting of servals is either vetoed or regulated in several countries .
