The teenagers leave their mother at 12 months .
The serval favors areas with include such as reeds and tall grass and close proximity to sea mass, such as wetlands and savannahs. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but pervasive in south Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and National resources( IUCN) categorizes the serval as least concern. It occurs in protection areas across its range, and hunting of servals is either proscribed or regulated in several countries .
