Mating takes place at different times of its first year in different parts of their scope, but typically once or twice a year in a region. After a gestational period of two to 3 month, a litter of one to four is abide. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens embark hunting on their own at six months. The teenagers leave their father at 12 months .

The serval prefers areas with cover-up such as reeds and tall grasses and close proximity to water torsoes, such as wetlands and savannahs. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but pervasive in south Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources( IUCN) classifies the serval as least anxiety.
