The Serval Cat also known as the tierboskat, is a wild "cat-o-nine-tail" found in Africa. It is the sole member of the genus Leptailurus and was firstly described by German naturalist Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber in 1776. Eighteen subspecies are recognised. After a gestational reporting period two to 3 month, a litter of one to four is tolerate. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens embark hunting on their own at six months. The minors leave their mother at 12 months .

The serval prefers areas with extend such as reeds and towering grasses and proximity to liquid torsoes, such as wetlands and savannah. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but widespread in south Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources( IUCN) categorizes the serval as least pertain.
