Mating takes neighbourhood at different times of the year in different parts of their scope, but generally once or twice a year in a region. After a gestational period of two to 3 month, a litter of one to four is birth. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens begin hunting on their own at six months. The adolescents leave their mother at 12 months .

The serval wishes areas with cover-up such as reeds and towering grasses and close proximity to sea bodies, such as wetlands and savannahs. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but pervasive in south Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and National resources( IUCN) categorizes the serval as least fear. It occurs in protection areas across its assortment, and chase of servals is either prohibited or regulated in several countries .
