The Serval Cat also known as the tierboskat, is a wild "cat-o-nine-tail" found in Africa. It is the sole member of the genus Leptailurus and was first described by German naturalist Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber in 1776. Eighteen subspecies are recognised. Mating takes residence at different times of its first year in different parts of their range, but often once or twice a year in a region. After a gestational period of two to three months, a litter of one to four is endure. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens begin hunting on their own at six months. The youths leave their mom at 12 months .
The serval favors areas with cover-up such as reeds and tall grass and proximity to ocean mass, such as wetlands and savannah. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but widespread in south Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and National resources( IUCN) categorizes the serval as least refer.
