The Serval Cat also known as the tierboskat, is a wild "cat-o-nine-tail" found in Africa. It is the sole is part of the genus Leptailurus and was first is a description of German naturalist Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber in 1776. Eighteen subspecies are recognised. Mating takes place at different times of the year in different parts of their range, but normally once or twice a year in a region. After a gestational period of two to three months, a litter of one to four is stand. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens begin hunting on their own at six months. The adolescents leave their mom at 12 months .
The serval prefers areas with extend such as reeds and tall grass and close proximity to liquid mass, such as wetlands and savannah. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but widespread in south Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources( IUCN) categorizes the serval as least pertain. It occurs in protection areas across its range, and chase of servals is either prohibited or regulated in several countries .
