After a gestational period of two to three months, a litter of one to four is birth. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens embark hunting on their own at six months. The juveniles leave their mom at 12 months .

The serval wishes areas with encompas such as reeds and towering grasses and proximity to sea mass, such as wetlands and savannahs. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but pervasive in southern Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources( IUCN) classifies the serval as least refer. It occurs in protection areas across its range, and hunting of servals is either proscribed or regulated in several countries .
