The Serval Cat also known as the tierboskat, is a wild "cat-o-nine-tail" found in Africa. It is the sole member of the genus Leptailurus and was first is a description of German naturalist Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber in 1776. Eighteen subspecies are recognised. Mating takes neighbourhood at different times of the year in different parts of their assortment, but normally once or twice a year in an area. After a gestational period of two to three months, a offspring of one to four is tolerate. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens begin hunting on their own at six months. The youths leave their mom at 12 months .

The serval favors areas with covering such as reeds and tall grasses and proximity to water figures, such as wetlands and savannah. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but pervasive in south Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources( IUCN) classifies the serval as least relate. It occurs in protected areas across its scope, and chase of servals is either proscribed or regulated in several countries .
