The Serval Cat also known as the tierboskat, is a wild cat found in Africa. It is the sole is part of the genus Leptailurus and was firstly is a description of German naturalist Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber in 1776. Eighteen subspecies are recognised. Servals are carnivores- they prey on rodents( especially vlei rats ), small-scale chicks, frogs, bugs, and reptiles. The serval utilizes its sense of hearing to locate the target; to kill tiny prey, it leaps over 2 m( 6 ft 7 in) above the field to land on the prey on its forefeet, and finally kills it with little bit on the cervix or the foreman. Mating takes place at different times of its first year in different parts of their scope, but generally once or twice a year in an area. After a gestational reporting period two to 3 month, a litter of one to four is assume. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens begin hunting on their own at six months. The youths leave their mother at 12 months .
The serval opts areas with spread such as reeds and tall grasses and proximity to sea organizations, such as wetlands and savannahs. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but pervasive in southern Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources( IUCN) classifies the serval as least refer. It occurs in protection areas across its range, and chase of servals is either proscribed or regulated in several countries .
