Active in the day as well as at night, servals tend to be solitary with minimal social interaction. Servals are carnivores- they prey on rodents( particularly vlei rats ), small fowls, frogs, bugs, and reptiles. The serval use its sense of hearing to pinpoint the prey; to kill small-time target, it leaps over 2 m( 6 ft 7 in) above the floor to land on the prey on its forefeet, and finally kills it with a bite on the cervix or the chief. Mating takes neighbourhood at different times of its first year in different parts of their assortment, but commonly once or twice a year in a region. After a gestational period of two to 3 month, a offspring of one to four is carry. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens embark hunting on their own at six months. The juveniles leave their father at 12 months .
The serval favors areas with covering such as reeds and towering grasses and close proximity to water torsoes, such as wetlands and savannah. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but pervasive in southern Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources( IUCN) classifies the serval as least regard.
