Mating takes residence at different times of the year in different parts of their range, but often once or twice a year in a region. After a gestational reporting period two to 3 month, a offspring of one to four is assume. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens begin hunting on their own at six months. The teenagers leave their mother at 12 months .

The serval opts areas with covering such as reeds and tall grass and proximity to water torsoes, such as wetlands and savannah. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but pervasive in south Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and National resources( IUCN) categorizes the serval as least concern. It occurs in protected areas across its scope, and chase of servals is either vetoed or regulated in several countries .
