Servals are carnivores- they prey on rodents( especially vlei rats ), small-minded fowls, frogs, bugs, and reptiles. The serval applies its sense of hearing to situate the target; to kill small prey, it leaps over 2 m( 6 ft 7 in) above the ground to land on the prey on its forefeet, and finally kills it with little bit on the neck or the heading. Mating takes place at different times of its first year in different parts of their range, but often once or twice a year in a region. After a gestational period of two to three months, a litter of one to four is stand. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens embark hunting on their own at six months. The minors leave their mom at 12 months .
The serval opts areas with cover-up such as reeds and tall grass and proximity to water bodies, such as wetlands and savannah. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but widespread in south Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources( IUCN) classifies the serval as least anxiety. It occurs in protection areas across its assortment, and hunting of servals is either prohibited or regulated in several countries .
