Mating takes home at different times of its first year in different parts of their assortment, but typically once or twice a year in an area. After a gestational period of two to three months, a offspring of one to four is birth. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens embark hunting on their own at six months. The teenagers leave their mother at 12 months .

The serval favors areas with extend such as reeds and towering grass and close proximity to sea forms, such as wetlands and savannah. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but widespread in south Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and National resources( IUCN) categorizes the serval as least fear. It occurs in protection areas across its range, and hunting of servals is either prohibited or regulated in several countries .
