After a gestational reporting period two to 3 month, a litter of one to four is born. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens embark hunting on their own at six months. The teenagers leave their mother at 12 months .

The serval prefers areas with plow such as reeds and tall grass and proximity to liquid mass, such as wetlands and savannah. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but pervasive in southern Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and National resources( IUCN) categorizes the serval as least fear. It occurs in protection areas across its assortment, and hunting of servals is either proscribed or regulated in several countries .
