The Serval Cat also known as the tierboskat, is a wild cat may be in Africa. The serval is a slim, medium-sized cat that stands 54-62 cm( 21-24 in) at the shoulder and weighs 9-18 kg( 20-40 lb ). It is characterised by a small honcho, large-scale ears, a golden-yellow to buff hair spotted and striped with black, and a short, black-tipped posterior. The serval has the longest legs of any cat relative to its body sizing .
Active in the working day as well as at night, servals tend to be solitary with minimal social interaction. Both sexes prove highly overlapping dwelling ranges of 10 to 32 km2( 4-12 sq mi ), and mark them with feces and saliva. Servals are carnivores- they prey on rodents( especially vlei rats ), small-minded chicks, frogs, bugs, and reptiles. The serval employs its sense of hearing to pinpoint the prey; to kill small-minded target, it leaps over 2 m( 6 ft 7 in) above the ground to land on the prey on its forefeet, and finally kills it with little bit on the cervix or the psyche. Mating takes region at different times of the year in different parts of their assortment, but generally once or twice a year in a region. After a gestational period of two to three months, a offspring of one to four is birth. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens embark hunting on their own at six months. The minors leave their father at 12 months .
The serval prefers areas with covering such as reeds and towering grasses and close proximity to sea torsoes, such as wetlands and savannah. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but widespread in southern Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources( IUCN) classifies the serval as least pertain. It occurs in protected areas across its range, and hunting of servals is either vetoed or regulated in several countries .
