The serval uses its sense of hearing to pinpoint the target; to kill small-minded target, it leaps over 2 m( 6 ft 7 in) above the floor to land on the prey on its forefeet, and finally kills it with a bite on the cervix or the psyche. Mating takes region at different times of the year in different parts of their range, but generally once or twice a year in a region. After a gestational period of two to 3 month, a litter of one to four is stand. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens embark hunting on their own at six months. The adolescents leave their mother at 12 months .
The serval favors areas with plow such as reeds and tall grasses and proximity to water torsoes, such as wetlands and savannah. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but widespread in southern Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and National resources( IUCN) categorizes the serval as least refer. It occurs in protected areas across its range, and hunting of servals is either vetoed or regulated in several countries .
