After a gestational period of two to 3 month, a litter of one to four is born. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens begin hunting on their own at six months. The juveniles leave their mom at 12 months .

The serval wishes areas with cover-up such as reeds and tall grasses and close proximity to liquid figures, such as wetlands and savannah. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but widespread in southern Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources( IUCN) categorizes the serval as least relate. It occurs in protected areas across its scope, and hunting of servals is either proscribed or regulated in several countries .
