The serval utilizes its sense of hearing to situate the prey; to kill small-scale target, it leaps over 2 m( 6 ft 7 in) above the soil to land on the prey on its forefeet, and finally kills it with a bite on the cervix or the chief. Mating takes home at different times of the year in different parts of their assortment, but often once or twice a year in an area. After a gestational period of two to three months, a offspring of one to four is bear. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens embark hunting on their own at six months. The youths leave their father at 12 months .
The serval opts areas with spread such as reeds and towering grass and close proximity to ocean mass, such as wetlands and savannah. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but pervasive in south Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and National resources( IUCN) categorizes the serval as least concern. It occurs in protection areas across its scope, and hunting of servals is either proscribed or regulated in several countries .
