The Serval Cat also known as the tierboskat, is a wild "cat-o-nine-tail" found in Africa. It is the sole member of the genus Leptailurus and was firstly is a description of German naturalist Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber in 1776. Eighteen subspecies are recognised. The serval is a slim, medium-sized cat that stands 54-62 cm( 21-24 in) at the shoulder and weighs 9-18 kg( 20-40 lb ). The serval employs its sense of hearing to locate the prey; to kill small-minded target, it leaps over 2 m( 6 ft 7 in) above the floor to land on the prey on its forefeet, and finally kills it with little bit on the neck or the premier. Mating takes neighbourhood at different times of the year in different parts of their assortment, but often once or twice a year in a region. After a gestational reporting period two to 3 month, a litter of one to four is bear. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens embark hunting on their own at six months. The juveniles leave their mom at 12 months .
The serval wishes areas with cover such as reeds and towering grass and proximity to sea bodies, such as wetlands and savannah. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but pervasive in southern Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources( IUCN) categorizes the serval as least regard. It occurs in protection areas across its assortment, and chase of servals is either prohibited or regulated in several countries .
