The Serval Cat also known as the tierboskat, is a wild "cat-o-nine-tail" may be in Africa. Both sexes build highly overlapping residence ranges of 10 to 32 km2( 4-12 sq mi ), and distinguish them with feces and saliva. Servals are carnivores- they prey on rodents( specially vlei rats ), small birds, frogs, bugs, and reptiles. The serval applies its sense of hearing to pinpoint the target; to kill small-minded target, it leaps over 2 m( 6 ft 7 in) above the floor to land on the prey on its forefeet, and finally kills it with a bite on the cervix or the leader. Mating takes region at different times of its first year in different parts of their assortment, but typically once or twice a year in a region. After a gestational reporting period two to three months, a litter of one to four is accept. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens begin hunting on their own at six months. The teenagers leave their mom at 12 months .
The serval prefers areas with cover-up such as reeds and tall grasses and close proximity to ocean mass, such as wetlands and savannahs. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but widespread in south Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and National resources( IUCN) categorizes the serval as least concern. It occurs in protection areas across its scope, and chase of servals is either vetoed or regulated in several countries .
