Mating takes region at different times of its first year in different parts of their assortment, but typically once or twice a year in a region. After a gestational reporting period two to three months, a litter of one to four is accept. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens begin hunting on their own at six months. The teenagers leave their mom at 12 months .

The serval prefers areas with cover-up such as reeds and tall grasses and close proximity to ocean mass, such as wetlands and savannahs. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but widespread in south Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and National resources( IUCN) categorizes the serval as least concern. It occurs in protection areas across its scope, and chase of servals is either vetoed or regulated in several countries .
