Mating takes neighbourhood at different times of the year in different parts of their scope, but normally once or twice a year in an area. After a gestational reporting period two to 3 month, a offspring of one to four is stand. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens embark hunting on their own at six months. The youths leave their father at 12 months .

The serval opts areas with covering such as reeds and towering grass and proximity to ocean bodies, such as wetlands and savannah. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but widespread in southern Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and National resources( IUCN) classifies the serval as least pertain. It occurs in protected areas across its range, and hunting of servals is either proscribed or regulated in several countries .
