The Serval Cat also known as the tierboskat, is a wild "cat-o-nine-tail" found in Africa. It is the sole member of the genus Leptailurus and was first is a description of German naturalist Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber in 1776. Eighteen subspecies are recognised. Mating takes region at different times of the year in different parts of their scope, but normally once or twice a year in a region. After a gestational period of two to 3 month, a litter of one to four is stand. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens embark hunting on their own at six months. The juveniles leave their mother at 12 months .

The serval prefers areas with extend such as reeds and tall grasses and close proximity to ocean torsoes, such as wetlands and savannahs. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but pervasive in south Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and National resources( IUCN) categorizes the serval as least pertain. It occurs in protection areas across its range, and hunting of servals is either proscribed or regulated in several countries .
