The Serval Cat also known as the tierboskat, is a wild "cat-o-nine-tail" found in Africa. It is the sole member of the genus Leptailurus and was first is a description of German naturalist Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber in 1776. Eighteen subspecies are recognised. The serval is a slim, medium-sized cat that stands 54-62 cm( 21-24 in) at the shoulder and weighs 9-18 kg( 20-40 lb ). The serval employs its sense of hearing to situate the target; to kill small target, it leaps over 2 m( 6 ft 7 in) above the sand to land on the prey on its forefeet, and finally kills it with little bit on the cervix or the chief. Mating takes region at different times of its first year in different parts of their range, but commonly once or twice a year in an area. After a gestational reporting period two to 3 month, a offspring of one to four is tolerate. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens begin hunting on their own at six months. The minors leave their father at 12 months .

The serval prefers areas with extend such as reeds and towering grasses and proximity to water torsoes, such as wetlands and savannahs. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but widespread in south Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and National resources( IUCN) categorizes the serval as least fear. It occurs in protection areas across its range, and chase of servals is either prohibited or regulated in several countries .
