The serval employs its sense of hearing to situate the prey; to kill small-scale prey, it leaps over 2 m( 6 ft 7 in) above the ground to land on the prey on its forefeet, and finally kills it with little bit on the neck or the honcho. Mating takes neighbourhood at different times of the year in different parts of their range, but commonly once or twice a year in a region. After a gestational reporting period two to three months, a litter of one to four is abide. Weaning occurs at one month, and kittens embark hunting on their own at six months. The youths leave their mother at 12 months .
The serval opts areas with plow such as reeds and towering grass and proximity to sea mass, such as wetlands and savannah. It is rare in northern Africa and the Sahel, but widespread in south Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources( IUCN) classifies the serval as least concern. It occurs in protected areas across its scope, and chase of servals is either vetoed or regulated in several countries .
